BRIDGE SESSIONS: Cyanotype Zine Making
This hands-on workshop explored the Victorian cyanotype process, facilitated by Half Frame Full Flavour and hosted at Fountain Arts in Scunthorpe. Participants created striking monochrome prints from their own photographs before transforming them into handmade zines.
While cyanotype may feel familiar to some, this session stood out due to the facilitators’ in-depth knowledge, generosity and encouragement. They created an environment where everyone felt comfortable experimenting, regardless of previous experience.
Participants were able to submit their own photographs in advance, making the process more personal and engaging. The day combined technical learning with creative play, from coating paper and exposing prints, to folding and assembling individual zines.
Opportunities to experiment, take risks and enjoy the process, are central to what Over the Bridge aims to provide. Participants even left with coated materials to continue exploring at home, extending the impact beyond the session itself.
The workshop was fully booked weeks in advance, highlighting strong demand for practical, skills-based opportunities. It was a fantastic day, and we look forward to welcoming Half Frame Full Flavour back for future sessions on alternative processes in photography.
